AiRS Meets with ASATU Leaders on APLUC.

The Management of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS on June 14,2024 had an interactive session with some members of the town unions under the umbrella of the Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU) at the UHBET Centre, Agu Awka.

The meeting which was convened by the Chairman/Chief Executive AiRS, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA ACTI with the aim to enlighten and partner with the town union leaders in respect of the Anambra State Property and Land Use Charge (APLUC). Town Union leaders are regarded as the chief custodian in the administrative hierarchy of the various communities they represent. According to him, the State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR had given him the mandate to do so having experienced a quantum leap of revenue generated last month and the need for consolidation henceforth. Dr. Ezeilo used the opportunity to reel out various infrastructural projects embarked upon by the State governor both the ones completed and yet to be completed, all being powered by the taxpayers money, hence the strategic call for the partnership with the ASATU leaders in that regard.

Interestingly, the Anambra State Property and Land Use Charge APLUC, a consolidation of all property and land based rates and charges payable in Anambra State into a new land based charge known as APLUC was passed into law by the Anambra State House Assembly on the 29th November 2011 and accented by the then Executive Governor on the 19th December 2011 and was introduced by all land based rates and property charges.

Addressing the ASATU leaders present at the meeting, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR on IGR Technical, Mrs. Oyeka Amara Kate FCA FCTI stated that the essence of this meeting is very strategic and important for the AiRS management and the ASATU to partner in the areas of simulated enlightenment and information to help in passing the APLUC message down to their subordinates in the quest to drive this particular revenue, adding that if we get it right, we are sure of cruising from the current N4.2 billion monthly to and appreciable figure. “We shall commence this APLUC revenue drive in no distant time in order to actualize the visions of our dear Governor in transforming the State into a livable and prosperous homeland “, she enthused.

Representing the Executive Director in charge of Direct Assessment AiRS, Mr Ben Anierobi Okafor, the Head, HNI Dept AiRS, Mrs Juliet Nwakpadalu also stated that the reason for the meeting was to inform the ASATU leaders about the APLUC, knowing fully well that the PG’s are very essential in their various town in the State. “Help us inform your people about APLUC so that it will be easier for us to move in the field in our quest to drive this revenue”, she pleaded.

Speaking at the event, the President General, ASATU, Chief Titus Akpudo thanked the AiRS Chairman for the giant strides recorded in the revenue administration while acknowledging the good works of the State governor stated that the APLUC revenue is a welcome development. He also expressed concerns about creating an enabling avenue that will motivate the PG’s to be actively involved in the APLUC drive. According to him, the idea will help strengthen the partnership.

Various PGs made salient suggestions that seem beneficial to the AiRS management regarding the APLUC revenue drive. Particularly the President General, Obosi Development Union, Barr. Chimezie Obi” suggested that it is very important that the people understand the provisions of the APLUC law while stressing the need for the AiRS management to make available copies of these laws to be distributed to all the PG’s that will help in getting them well informed and equipped with the relevant laws guiding the APLUC.
