The Management of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS in conjunction with the APLUC consultant had on July 17,2024 had an interactive session with the members of the Landlord Association, Obosi Urban, the meeting was held at their headquarter (Senate House), Oduke Obosi.
The purpose of the meeting was to physically and properly sensitize them about the Anambra State Property and Land Use Charge, APLUC. The AiRS delegation was led by the Executive Director, Direct Assessment AiRS, Mr Ben Anierobi Okafor. Addressing the landlord association, Mr Okafor in simpler terms explained everything about APLUC and it’s relevant law application. He stated that the APLUC was signed and gazetted into law in 2011 by the Anambra State House of Assembly. He also used the opportunity to educate them on various infrastructural projects embarked upon by His Excellency, Gov Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR across the State, adding that these projects are powered with the taxpayer”s money.
In his reaction, the President General, Landlord Association Obosi Urban, Chief Emeka Asimonye welcomed the delegation and stated that the APLUC revenue is a welcome development but expressed concern over encroachment by some Local Government Authorities claiming the right to collect tenament rate and the likes, but equally expressed satisfaction that the State government through the revenue agency has currently harmonized all into one APLUC. He also pleaded that while they accept to comply, the State government on their own part should also reciprocate in terms of executing some infrastructural development in their domain. This he said will give them a sense of belonging.
The Project Manager and the Head, Capital Gains Tax-AiRS, Mr Emeka Anyaneto gave an insight that the APLUC rate will be collected digitally using the ASIN number. He further stated the fact that it also comes with a relief rate that will be affordable to every property owners in the State.
Also present at the meeting are one of the lead consultant, Mr Victor Ndu amongst others.
