WEEKEND DIGEST ON ANAMBRA TAX MATTERS: Focus on a 20% Tax Reduction on all Comercial Vehiclr fee Payments by Government.

Recently, the general public has witnessed persistent hardship caused by subsidy removal by the Federal government. The subsidy removal has led to an increase in the prices of petroleum products, thus leading to inflation, and reduced purchasing power for consumers.

Due to the increase in the prices of petroleum products, transportation costs become very high. Commuters now resort to trekking half their journey to save cost.

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo being a compassionate professor decided to reduce the operational fee payment of all commercial vehicle operators in Anambra State by 20% as a palliative measure to cushion the effect. This reduction took effect from September 1, 2023.

The new rate for all commercial vehicle operators in Anambra State as approved by the Governor from September 1, 2023, are as follows.

Tricycles (keke) which was N2.500 weekly will now become N2000 weekly or N8,000 monthly. Taxi: N2,400 weekly or N9,600 monthly.

Shuttle: N2,400 weekly or N9,600 monthly. Mini trucks: N3,000 weekly or N12,000 monthly. The urban bus: N3,000 weekly or N12,000 monthly. The inter-state bus: N4,000 weekly or N16,000 monthly.

As stated earlier, the new rate takes effect from September 1, 2023. Any operator with outstanding debt or payment accrued before September 1, 2023, will still clear the debt with the old rate, accordingly. What this means is that the arrears must be cleared with the old rate before enjoying the new rate.

To make this seamless, the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS) has developed an APP which the transporters can use to check their status.  The office is also at the verge of uploading the APP on Google Playstore for everyone to download.

The AiRS advises the Enforcement Officers to update their Enforcement mobile APP for this new change to take effect.

All commercial vehicle operators who paid the new rate before the system upgrade next week but did not have it reflected should not worry as everything will be normalized by next week.

Let us use the Governor\’s palliative measure to cushion the effect of subsidy removal in the State. Anambra must be great!
