The Grand Finale, AiRS Schools Tax Competition; Lady Hannah Model Secondary School Awada Obosi Emerged The Overall Winner.

In a bid to deepen the tax conversation, sensitization and awareness, The Management of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS on Thursday November 21,2204 concluded the activities marking the event tagged; The AiRS Schools Tax Competition with the theme; “Increasing Tax Awareness in Tomorrow’s Leaders” held at the SSG Hall, Govt House Awka.

The event which started since the month October 2024 has various Private Secondary Schools across the three geo-political zones registered and participated through the elimination stage with quiz competition used as the criteria for elimination and qualifications. Lady Hannah Model Secondary School Awada, Grace Court Sec School and Marist Comprehensive Sec School Nteje* were among the three schools that qualified to compete for the grand finale.

In a remark, Mrs Oyeka narrated the experience that culminated the initiative which was hinged on the need to create an uncommon tax awareness and sensitization to the all the Private Secondary Schools owners in the State with a view to giving them a sense of belonging while inculcating the importance of tax compliance amongst them, hence the introduction of this event. She also highlighted the challenges encountered during the course of preparation for the event and thanked the management of the AiRS and the indefatigable committee carefully drafted to organize this epoch making event for making it a success and similarly to all the sponsors of the event for their kind gesture.

Speaking at the event , The AiRS Chairman/Chief Executive, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA ACTI commended the organizers for putting up such a wonderful event while eulogizing the participating schools and the students for showcasing intellectual prowess during their presentation. He stated that this event will become indelible in the consciousness of the students, adding that they will now have to take the message back to their parents at home, that way, voluntary tax compliance will be evoked. The highly elated AiRS Chairman explained the efforts of AiRS towards robust engagement of various stakeholders which he highlighted in his four pillar innovative agenda/plan rooted in the use of technology to drive the revenue collection and administration with a view to increasing the State IGR to an upward trajectory.

On his part, the Managing Director, Anambra Broadcasting Services ABS, Mr. Chris Molokwu commended the management of the AiRS for creating such a lofty idea aimed at improving the knowledge of the students on everything about taxation and promised to feature the best performing students and the schools in one of their programs at the ABS Radio 88.5FM as part of their contribution towards shaping the lives of the young students for their outstanding performance.

Representing the State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR,, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi also commended the management of the AiRS for their thoughtfulness in initiating such a wonderful/educational platform that is aimed at empowering the mind of the young students with the knowledge of taxation, emphasizing on the theme; increasing tax awareness in tomorrow’s Leaders. He also used the opportunity to highlight the importance of taxation and the need for prompt tax compliance amongst taxpayers citing various achievements of Gov Soludo in massive roads construction, free education, employment of over eight thousand teachers and other infrastructural developments across the State that are made possible through judicious use of taxpayers money.

In the same vein, the Executive Director, Direct Assessment AiRS, Mr Ben Anierobi Okafor in his goodwill message underscores the importance of this event and commended the SSA and all the committee members for all their efforts towards organizing the maiden event; AiRS Schools Tax Competition.

After a keenly contested “Talk Show” presentation, Lady Hannah Model Secondary School Awada Obosi* emerged the overall winner of the year 2024 AiRS Schools Tax Competition and was presented with a set of Tablet Computer and a winning Trophy, followed by Grace Court Sec School Awka as the second runner up also presented with a brand new set of Printer and a Trophy while Marist Comprehensive Sec School Nteje claimed the third position and was also presented with Brand New School Stationeries and a Trophy.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of various prizes to the students by the trio of the Chief of Staff to Gov Soludo, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, The Chairman/Chief Executive, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA ACTI and the Managing Director, Anambra Broadcasting Services, ABS, Mr Chris Molokwu.

Other notable personality present at the event is the Managing Director, Civic and Social Reform Office, Anambra State, Mr. Chuka Nnabuife.
