The Management and Staff of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS on Sunday June 9,2024 organized an interactive session with the market leaders in Anambra State under the umbrella of Anambra State Market and Traders Association (ASMATA) tagged; “Market Levy Performance Appraisal and Prize Giving Day” at the UHBET Centre, Agu Awka.
The event was designed to honor and motivate the *Best Performing Chairmen of Market and also to signpost the commencement of the 2024 Market Levy Collection
In an opening remark, the Chairman/Chief Executive Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AiRS, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA ACTI thanked the market leaders in Anambra State for their unwavering support and efforts towards the collection of the 2023 Market Levy and also used the opportunity to urge them to increase their efforts towards the collection of 2024 Market Levy collection following the recently signed executive order by His Excellency Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR on the General Purpose Levy for market/traders in Anambra State. Dr Ezeilo also used the opportunity to reel out some of the achievements done by the State governor using the taxpayers money. He promised that this prize giving event will be done annually in order to motivate the market leaders in their quest to drive the revenue coming from the market.
Addressing the audience, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Anambra State, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi stated that the administration of Gov Soludo is out to sacrifice and transform the State into a livable and prosperous homeland. In his words, “we are here to say thank you to Anambra traders for their maximum compliance towards the collection of the market Levy, while we urge you to continue to work and support the government of Gov Soludo . He also stated that going forward, there might be the introduction of another prize category in order to motivate the traders.
In the same vein, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Soludo on IGR Technical, Mrs Oyeka Amara Kate FCA FCTI thanked the traders in Anambra State for ensuring maximum compliance towards the market revenue collection which also contributed to the N4.2 billion generated last month, even as she urged them to double their efforts in their contribution towards increasing the monthly revenue collection to at least N10 billion.
The House Member representing Ihiala Constituency and also the House Committee Chairman on IGR, Hon Ngobidi urged the market leaders to always join hands to support the government of Gov Soludo through promlt compliance of the market Levy collection, adding that it is feasible what the State Governor is doing with the taxpayers money.
The President General, Anambra State Market and Traders Association ASMATA, Chief Humphrey Anwuna (Onwa Ora Eri) expressed his happiness and thanked the AiRS and it’s Chairman, Dr Greg Ezeilo for his magnanimity towards organizing such an event to honor and motivate best performing market leaders, adding that the gesture will motivate them to do more.
