AiRS Schools Tax Competition In Retrospect:

The past weeks have witnessed a remarkable journey in the history of the Anambra State Internal Revenue AiRS. The agency in its magnanimity decided to give back to the society;  Talking about the birth of The Maiden Edition of the AiRS Schools Tax Competition 1.0 with the theme: “Increasing Tax Awareness in Tomorrow’s Leaders.”

At first it was a dream and then became a reality. About 23 Senior Private Secondary Schools registered across the three Senatorial Zone in Anambra State; 4 from Anambra South, 11 from Central and 8 from North respectively. Stage 1 of the competition kicked off from October 2-4th,2024. The train took off from Aguata Local Government Secretariat venue slated for the competitors from Anambra South Zone, then to Onitsha South Local Government Secretariat for competitors from Anambra North down to the Training Hall, Revenue House, Awka been the venue slated for the competitors from Anambra Central Zone.

At the end of a keenly contested Quiz Competition to test the students knowledge on tax related topics. Six Schools emerged top winners and as such qualified for the Stage 2 of the competition, below are the names;

*Nneoma Sec School and St Mikel International School both in Nnewi emerged top winners from Anambra South.

* Lady Hannah Model School, Awada Obosi and Grace Court Sec School, Awka from Anambra Central.

*Learning Field International School Onitsha and Marist Comprehensive Sec School Nteje from Anambra North.

Accordingly, Stage 2 of the AiRS Schools Tax Competition is expected to hold on October 24,2024 at the Training Hall, Revenue House Awka. Winners from this stage of the competition will then proceed to compete for the final stage (The Grand Finale).

Debate Competition will be a determinant factor at the Grand Finale of the Competition on November 14, 2024. Whichever school that will eventually emerge the overall top winner will go home with a Tablet Computer and a Trophy, the 1st Runner-Up School a Printer and a Trophy while the 2nd Runner-Up School covets School Stationeries and a Trophy*.

The AiRS Schools Tax Competition 1.0 is part of the various innovations initiated by the AiRS Chairman /Chief Executive, Dr Greg Ezeilo FCA ACTI and spearheaded by the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR on (IGR Technical), Mrs. Oyeka Amara Kate FCA FCTI with  the help of various Sub-Committee appointed by the agency. The aim of this competition which is novel in the State is to grow future tax experts and practitioners as well as creating tax awareness and deepening tax conversation in Anambra State and beyond. This subtle means of tax education and enlightenment also encourages tax compliance. It is also a way of giving back to the society and the schools a sense of belonging.
